ELIGIBILITY

  • Instruments: piano, violin, viola, cello
  • Pre-formed ensembles consisting of these instruments are eligible to apply.
  • Ages 18 +
  • Every member of an ensemble must be 18+ years old.
  • The maximum number of years a rising artist can attend a Four Seasons Workshop is seven — three as an individual playing an eligible instrument, two as an individual on a different eligible instrument, and two as a member of an ensemble.
  • Rising artists may not attend more than two years in a row on the same instrument or as part of the same pre-formed ensemble.

FACULTY ARTISTS & RISING ARTISTS PERFORM TOGETHER

Every rising artist will participate in two ensembles. All ensembles will perform in a Spring Workshop 2024 public concert. Rising artists will additionally perform in a solo master class and participate in career-relevant seminars.

FULL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP & TRAVEL STIPEND

  • All rising artists receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, room and board.
  • All rising artists receive a travel stipend of up to:
    • From within North America – 400USD
    • From outside North America – 800USD
  • Cello airfare will also be covered up to these amounts.
  • To be eligible to receive an international travel supplement, the rising artist must be currently living in that country and not a student at a North American institution.

AUDITION RECORDING REQUIREMENTS

Recording requirements for individuals and ensembles are below. Applicants can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application. All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance, and must include the date of the recording/performance.


VIOLIN

  • Two contrasting selections of the applicant’s choice.
  • All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance.
  • All submissions must include the date of the recording/performance.
  • Acceptable examples include movements from standard concerti or sonatas, movements from the Bach Sonatas or Partitas, or movements from equivalent major works for the violin. If the applicant chooses a duo sonata, it must be performed with piano.
  • Applicants can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application.


VIOLA

  • Two contrasting selections of the applicant’s choice.
  • All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance.
  • All submissions must include the date of the recording/performance.
  • Acceptable examples include movements from standard concerti or sonatas, selections from the Bach Cello Suites or movements from equivalent major works for the viola. If the applicant chooses a duo sonata, it must be performed with piano.
  • Applicants can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application.


CELLO

  • Two contrasting selections of the applicant’s choice.
  • All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance.
  • All submissions must include the date of the recording/performance.
  • Acceptable examples include movements from standard concerti or sonatas, selections from the Bach Cello Suites or movements from equivalent major works for the cello. If the applicant chooses a duo sonata, it must be performed with piano.
  • Applicants can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application.


PIANO

  • A movement of a sonata from the Classical Era (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert or a like-composer).
  • A contrasting selection of the applicant’s choice. Concerto submissions are only accepted if they are accompanied by orchestra (no piano accompaniment). Individual movements suffice for multi-movement works.
  • All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance.
  • All submissions must include the date of the recording/performance.
  • Applicants can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application.


PRE-FORMED ENSEMBLE

  • A movement of a piece from the Classical Era (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert or a like-composer).
  • A contrasting selection of the ensemble’s choice. Individual movements suffice for multi-movement works.
  • All submissions must be a single-angle video recording or from an unedited live performance.
  • All submissions must include the date of the recording/performance.
  • Ensembles can submit additional video recordings to supplement their application.

TO APPLY

Complete the online application (including links to video recordings) and submit the $80 Individual or $100 Ensemble application fee.
In addition to the online application, the following materials are required to have a complete application. These should be submitted via email to fourseasons@ecu.edu.

  • One letter of recommendation. Recommendations may be submitted directly by the recommender or by the applicant along with their supporting documents.
  • CV/Resume
  • Chamber music repertoire list (including movements and parts played)
  • Pre-Formed Ensembles: Please submit your ensemble’s repertoire list AND the individual chamber music lists of each member.

Applicants can apply as both an individual and as a member of a pre-formed ensemble in the same year. Applicants can also apply on different instruments in the same year. Separate applications, including separate application fees, must be submitted.
